Dawnwalker DRM & Known Issues: Official Fixes and Workarounds

Does Dawnwalker use Denuvo?
The developer’s reported answer is no. MP1st attributes that answer to a Rebel Wolves Instagram Q&A published in July 2026. This is a media record of the developer’s statement; we have not inspected the original Instagram exchange or independently tested the game executable.
For the GOG version, the official product listing explicitly says DRM-free, with no activation or online connection required to play. This confirms the GOG offer; it is not a binary inspection of the Steam, Xbox or PlayStation versions.

That DRM statement does not diagnose performance problems. Use the issue-specific information below rather than attributing every stutter or crash to DRM.

Official patches through Update 1.1
Update 1.1 (October 22, 2026) is on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It adds Draught of Mind Rebirth, animal petting, a Forgiving difficulty beside a new Story mode with combat assist, subtitle size plus subtitles for every dialogue line, and Frame Generation settings. Combat targeting, Shadowstep and Planeshift attachment were also adjusted. The note’s only listed open issue is a crash when switching FrameGen from off to on on the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT. Quest lines are bugfixes, including Home Sweet Home, The Cycle of Love, The Night of Horrors and Midnight Reckoning. The Withering Away line is a translated mine note, not a new medicine recipe.

Steam PC Hotfix 1.0.5, published September 10, improves the shader compilation pipeline and may fix stuttering for some users. It is a Steam-specific note; do not apply its scope to console builds without a matching official note. It is an earlier record, not the latest patch.

Hotfix 1.0.4 (September 9, PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S) addresses blocked saves and several quest blockers: the Deep Down cave, Murohn failing to spawn, a premature Hive and Seek resolution, On the Run infinite loading, and The Heart Wants What It Wants progression. It also makes the rag investigation optional in Smoke and Ashes. The GameInput-related controller FPS fix is marked Steam only; the VSync/FSR Frame Generation fix is PC only.

The 1.0.2 details below remain a historical issue record.
The official 1.0.2 page displays September 9, 2026 and names PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. These are the changes described in that note:
| Area | Change | Platform scope |
|---|---|---|
| Farkas dialogue | Restores the conversation after nearby NPCs have been killed | All platforms named by the note |
| Tutorial navigation | Corrects Lunka losing the way while leading Coen | All platforms named by the note |
| Blacksmith | Corrects crafting for a particular holy sword | All platforms named by the note |
| Controller input | Adjusts dead zones and sprint input | PC only |
This is a dated 1.0.2 record, not a claim that no later patch exists.

Known issues: symptoms, action and status
The developer’s September 3 Steam post was rechecked on September 15. Its launch-era advice remains visible; the later patch notes above provide the update context.
| Symptom | Official advice | Patch context | Source checked |
|---|---|---|---|
| FrameGen crash on AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT | The October 22 note lists the crash when switching FrameGen from off to on and gives no workaround | Open on that GPU in Update 1.1; other GPUs are not named | Oct 22, 2026 |
| Windowed / Borderless stuttering | Try Full Screen | 1.0.5 improves shader compilation for some Steam users; it does not guarantee every stutter is fixed | Sep 15, 2026 |
| Crash during shader compilation | Consult the linked Oodle / Intel guidance and hardware-specific BIOS advice | Not a universal cause or guaranteed fix | Sep 15, 2026 |
| PS5 gamepad button mapping missing | Original post supplies no workaround | 1.0.3 adds DualSense support without explicitly resolving remapping | Sep 15, 2026 |
| Sprint stops when changing direction on gamepad | Launch post suggests sensitivity 1 → 0.8 in console settings | Later controller-input adjustments appear in 1.0.2 and 1.0.4; the old workaround is historical | Sep 15, 2026 |

Controller update: Steam Hotfix 1.0.3 (September 4 UTC) added DualSense support. The announcement does not specifically say that the button-mapping menu issue above was resolved; controller support and remapping are separate questions.

Before applying a workaround, match your symptom, platform and installed version to the row. A workaround is not a guaranteed fix. For BIOS instructions, use the guidance for the exact motherboard or computer model rather than a generic procedure.

Tracking updates
For unresolved installation or gameplay problems, the official support notice directs players to Bandai Namco Customer Support. Include your platform, game version and reproduction steps.
Future entries should identify the patch, date, platform and affected issue. A source title alone is not enough to mark an issue resolved. Check the linked official note before assuming an old workaround still applies.
